Arthritis literally means inflammation (-itis) of the joint (arthro). Why is the joint inflammed? It's inflammed because its damaged and the body is sending materials to help repair it. Just like when you slam your finger in the door, it swells. The problem with arthritis is that it is usually a chronic condition due to the nature of the joint capsule. After age 20, there is no blood supply into the joint capsule, making healing impossible. As wear and tear occurs in the joint, despite the inflammatory response, the chemicals are unable to reach the damaged structures.
This is where Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) comes in. The PRP is injected directly into the joint capsule, healing the joint from the inside out. The PRP will heal the soft tissue, building up space in the joint, and stopping the constant rubbing and tearing of the joint.
